Front cover illustration
Biomass from a bioreactor operating for enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) with propionate as carbon source. The biomass was dominated by Defluvicoccus vanus-related glycogen-accumulating organisms, which are detrimental to EBPR. Yellow/orange-coloured cells are D. vanus cluster 2, cyan-coloured cells are D. vanus cluster 1 and green-coloured cells are other bacteria. The photo was generated by Rikke Louise Meyer. The Environmental Biotechnology CRC is acknowledged for funding. See the paper by Meyer et al. in the February issue of the journal, vol. 152, part 2, pp. 419-429.
